The Porsche Boxster is a two-seat roadster (convertible) with a 6-cylinder boxer mid-engine and rear-wheel drive. The name "Boxster" is a combination of the words boxer and roadster. The Boxster has styling characteristics of the 1956 Porsche 550.
The first generation Porsche Boxster (version number 986) entered the market in August 1996. With this model, unlike the Porsche 928, 924, 944 and 968, Porsche wanted to return to the 911 tradition with 6-cylinder boxer engines and rear-wheel drive. The Porsche Boxster proved to be a great success. The first Porsche Boxster had a 2.5-liter engine with 204 hp.
